Porsche unveils the new 911 alongside past iconic seven generations in Singapore

The eighth generation Porsche 911 made its Singapore debut alongside the past iconic seven generations

SINGAPORE, 17 July 2019 – The eighth generation 911 was unveiled yesterday for the first time in Singapore, at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre. Aptly named the Timeless Machine, the new sports car made its appearance alongside all past generations of the iconic 911. At the launch, Porsche traced the evolutionary journey of the 911s across eight generations in a video, accompanied with music from the past decades and dance performances, celebrating the heritage of the 911 since its debut more than 55 years ago.

Francis Lee, Managing Director of Stuttgart Auto, said, “The 911 has captured the imagination of car enthusiasts of all ages and generations since its debut more than 55 years ago, and we believe it will continue to wow audiences in Singapore. We are excited to build on the success of the 911 from the past and present, and into the future.”

Henrik Dreier, General Manager – Singapore, Porsche Asia Pacific, said, “The eighth generation 911 is a timeless machine that has upped the game with a suite of new technological innovations for better handling, performance, comfort and safety, such as the world’s first Wet Mode . We are happy that our customers in Singapore are now able to experience the new 911 and its capabilities first hand.”

The new Porsche 911
The next-generation 3.0-litre flat-six turbocharged engine in the new 911 has been further developed and is more powerful than before, with 450 hp in the 911 Carrera S and 4S models, a 30 hp increase from the previous model. The 911 Carrera S is able to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds (with Sport Chrono Package) and achieves a top speed of 308 km/h, while the 911 Carrera 4S completes the 0-100 km/h sprint in 3.4 seconds (with Sport Chrono Package) and has a top speed of 306 km/h. Power is delivered by the newly-developed eight-speed dual-clutch Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission.

Clearer design and identity
The new 911 stays committed to the Porsche design DNA. The exterior design is completely new, with significantly wider wheel housings over the 20-inch front wheels and 21-inch rear wheels. The rear end is the same width across all models, while the front body is 45 mm wider. The electrical pop-out door handles are flush integrated into the body, emphasising the tapered and smooth side contours. The bonnet has a more pronounced recess that evokes the design of the first 911 generations. The rear is dominated by a wider rear spoiler and seamless light bar. Apart from the front and rear sections, the entire outer skin is made from aluminium.

The new interior inspired by the Porsche Advanced Cockpit concept, is characterised by the clear and straight lines of the dashboard with recessed instruments. Besides the analogue central rev counter, there are two frameless displays that supply information to the driver. The centre screen of the Porsche Communication Centre (PCM) is 10.9 inches wide, allowing easy access for the driver without distraction, and comes with a compact switch unit with five buttons underneath, to give direct access to important vehicle functions.

Increased safety and comfort
In a world’s first, Porsche has developed the Wet mode, available as standard in the new 911. This function detects water on the road, preconditions the control systems accordingly and warns the driver, allowing the car to be programmed to emphasise on safety. The warning and brake assist system is also fitted as standard and detects the risk of collisions to initiate emergency braking if necessary. In addition, electric folding mirrors, reverse camera and Porsche Entry & Drive, come standard for Singapore cars. The optional adaptive cruise control includes automatic distance control, stop-and-go function, reversible occupant protection and innovative autonomous Emergency Assist function.
