PT Eurokars Motor Indonesia to Assume the Distributorship of Mazda Vehicles in Indonesia

SINGAPORE, 14 October 2016 – PT Eurokars Motor Indonesia, a member of Eurokars Group, has been appointed by Mazda Motor Corporation as the distributor of Mazda vehicles in Indonesia.

This appointment represents a significant milestone for Eurokars Group, one of the leading automotive groups in Asia since its founding in 1985. It also reflects the synergistic partnership between Mazda Motor Corporation and Eurokars Group which is well-positioned to run the distributorship, having garnered a strong track record since it became a dealer for Mazda cars in Indonesia in 2007, and then took over the distribution of Mazda cars in Singapore in 2011.

In just a few years, it has raised the profile and catalysed the expansion of the brand. Eurokars Group grew the market share for Mazda cars in Singapore to 9.2% in 2015. In recognition of its efforts, it received the Mazda Distributor Commendation Programme’s “Volume and Share Increase Award” in 2014 as well as the “Ratio Increase Award” for achieving 168 per cent growth in 2015.

As of September 2016, Mazda is now ranked 3rd in Singapore in terms of new registrations, according to the latest Land Transport Authority New Registration statistics.

“This partnership between Eurokars Group and Mazda Motor Corporation to distribute Mazda cars across all of Indonesia is an extension of our existing close collaboration which has been mutually rewarding and satisfactory. We are honoured to be appointed as the distributor for this vital and strategic market which is the largest economy in Southeast Asia and ranks among the top countries in this region in terms of auto sales. We fully intend to leverage the knowledge, expertise and experience that we have gained from being a dealer for Mazda cars in Indonesia and the distributor for the Singapore market in our bid to turn Mazda into one of the most sought after automotive brands in Indonesia,” says Mr Karsono Kwee, Executive Chairman of Eurokars Group.

The distribution network of 45 dealers will be officially transferred from PT Mazda Motor Indonesia to PT Eurokars Motor Indonesia in February 2017.

Following the official transfer, PT Eurokars Motor Indonesia will take over existing staff and dealers under PT Mazda Motor Indonesia. It will also be responsible for all after sales including the warranties of all Mazda vehicles sold by PT Mazda Motor Indonesia prior to the transfer.

Since its founding in 1985 by Mr Kwee, an award-winning entrepreneur and motoring enthusiast, Eurokars Group has been driving luxury experiences and powering the growth of premium car ownerships across Asia with its headquarters in Singapore and businesses in Indonesia, China and Australia.

As the largest privately-owned car distributorship in Singapore, Eurokars Group manages five iconic marques – Porsche, Rolls-Royce, MINI, Mazda and McLaren. In Indonesia, the group represents Porsche, Rolls-Royce, BMW, Mazda, Maserati, and 3M Automotive and Commercial Film products for the whole of Indonesia. To fuel its growth and regional expansion, the group has also acquired a stake in a Rolls-Royce dealership in Nanning, China, and secured a Mazda dealership in Perth.

The industry accolades that both Eurokars Group and Mr Kwee have been conferred are further testament to the group’s success.

In 2004, Eurokars Group first won the Enterprise 50 award. It was recognised again in 2011 when it won third position for the award. In 2012, the group was also accorded the Business Superbrands status.

Even as Eurokars Group celebrates its success in doing business, it believes in making a positive impact on the communities that it serves and operates in, and in doing its part to give back to society. The group has made significant contributions to various charities over the years. For its efforts in building social capital and contributing to the community, Eurokars Group received the Community Partnership Excellence Award of the People’s Association Community Spirit Awards 2016.

An intrepid entrepreneur, Mr Kwee was presented with the 2015 Honorary Distinguished Business Leader Award at the Promising SME 500 Medallion Presentation Ceremony. And in 2006, he was the recipient of the Entrepreneur of the Year Award which was jointly organised by ASME and Rotary Club of Singapore.

Not resting on its laurels and in the light of projected acceleration in expansion, Eurokars Group embarked on developing a 438,000 sq ft facility in Tanjong Penjuru in the Western part of Singapore with the aim of building a S$60 million facility which will house its after-sales operations and serve as a one-stop hub for repairs and maintenance, pre-delivery inspection, body repair and spray painting, as well as warehousing of all the brands under the group. Construction of the facility has already begun and will be completed in early 2018.

In 2017, Eurokars Group will commence construction of its new corporate headquarters at Kung Chong Road. Sized at 40,000 square feet with a total built-up area of 100,000 square feet, the development will comprise two levels of showrooms; three levels of workshops; two levels of corporate office, as well as three levels of basement carpark and rooftop parking. Completion is targeted for three years from now.

“We thank Mazda Motor Corporation for this valuable opportunity to enter into a partnership with them in another important Asian market and to work in tandem with them to continue to drive the success and popularity of Mazda in this part of the world,” says Mr Kwee.
